July 19 (Sunday) is a WALK DAY!
Sunday, July 19, 2026. Jewel was impounded on Tuesday, July 7 and is still contained at the McCourtney shelter through today. And although Nevada County Animal Control (NCAC) does not expect Jewel to be released tomorrow, Animal Control cannot commit to her whereabouts on Monday. We do know that it IS safe to walk dogs this afternoon and evening.
Shelter staff work daily (Sun. thru Sat.) from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Jewel can’t be released after hours. So until we get more information, we can recommend walking dogs in the neighborhood only before 8:00 am Monday, July 20.
This page will be updated at least once each day—so that, hopefully, neighbors can plan their dog walks. The information here is provided to me by NCAC. It is the most accurate information we have at the time of this posting, and I’m reporting exactly what they are communicating to me. If you keep this link handy, <https//cutie.caavc.net> it should always open to the latest update. For those walking dogs, we suggest you check it before your walk, in case it changes. The date/time of the current post is shown at the left below, in red.
Always report any incident in the neighborhood involving a dog that is not under a person’s control, and that appears vicious; call Dispatch at (530) 265-7880.
This page is dedicated to the memory of my Cutie Pie. My goal is that no other dog experience an injury or painful death by Jewel—so that Cutie will not have died in vain. —Judi (Cutie’s Mom): judicaler@hotmail.com.
